"My mom, at the age of 74, documented within 2 months the recipes reflected in the pages of this book."
Tamil Taste began as a notebook of about 200 recipes, handwritten in Tamil by Suguna Sethuraman for her son to bring home to his own family. After she passed in 2011, that notebook became this book — translated, tested, photographed, and compiled by her family so it could be shared with the next generation.
"My mother sat down and penned about 200 recipes with all the proportions and directions. Except for a few, all the recipes she wrote down were unique, and neither I nor my siblings ever remember tasting any of them."
On one of her visits to California, at the age of seventy-four, Suguna Sethuraman wrote out the recipes of a lifetime in a Tamil notebook — in two months, without a strikethrough or a second thought. This book is that notebook: translated, grouped by course, and cooked and photographed dish by dish by her family so every recipe could be tasted before it was printed.
Every recipe carries its name in both English and Tamil, the way she wrote it.
